WHATS BEST WAY TO QUIT?

I started wellbutrin today for depression, but i read that it can also be used to quit smoking. I kinda want to quit, because its expensive, and unhealthy. But In times of boredom, frustration, sadness, anxiety i am going to miss that pick me up smoking provides. I was thinking about just quitting cold turkey when i took my wellburtin this afternoon at 1. But I had a moment of weakness and had a smoke. Now Im thinking the patch, but i tried the patch before and I ended up smoking eventually because of the drawn out withdrawls. I am thinking about doing the patch but weening myself off much faster this time.

I quit for New Year's, and I haven't touched a cigarette since. I know what you mean when you say you miss the pick me up. Luckily, this time, (I've attempted to quit before) I managed to get over the withdrawal quite quickly. I used nicotine gum and nicotine lozenges, and after two days didn't need them. I waited until I desperately needed one, which also helped. I stayed in the house so I couldn't be tempted, and went out for the first time yesterday, and wasn't even tempted! I hope I've helped, and I hope you can give up. Just remember to take one day at a time. And if you've only been on the medication for a day, wait until it kicks in to quit, as it can take four to six weeks to kick in properly.

thanks for the advice. I really appreciate it. Yea, I was thinking that i should wait till the medication kicks in...I am really down in the dumps. You've given me confidence to continue smoking till I know the medication is working. I really appreciate the advice and you being there. Great job on quitting for new years. I quit once during college, didn't need it for 4 years, then started back again. I remember that day, not even wanting to smoke, but doing so because others were.

5 hours without a cigarette, or nicotine!!!! feeling alittle stressed. Wanting to light up but i keep tell myself "can I achieve this today?" yes I can.

24 hours without nicotine! Feeling alot better. I have some nervous energy that i didn't have yesterday. I took my wellbutrin at 6am, and slept in till 7:30am so it would be in my system when I woke. Felt pretty good apon awakening. Was some rough going early this morning, that morning cigarette was hard to give up. And last night, was alittle tough, alot of pacing.

Thanks for the support, you should support me!, Thanks for posting a reply everytime I have something new to say, its really supportive and it helps to know that there is someone else who cares and understands. Yea....early morning cigarette and after dinner, are the worst. I wonder why the after lunch cigarette was never a big deal?...Anyways, I have been nicotine free for 29 hours. I am holding on, i feel alittle wierd though, like light headed, like ive just got done hyperventalating. Every once and awhile I get a wave of craving for nicotine but its very brief, usually a minute or less. I can't believe i am doing this cold turkey, I am so proud of myself!!!! I am going to reward myself by getting some chinese food tonight, or something else that i don't have to cook or worry about clean up :-) I think my first 24 hours should be rewarded like that don't you? Then maybe do it again at 3 days,alittle reward like some chocolate, or a huge ice cream, or ordering whatever i want for dinner or lunch. yea, i think i am going to do it after 1 day, 3 days, 7 days, and 2 weeks. Just alittle something to reward myself.

You're welcome! And that's a great idea. By the way, if you need something to help pass the cravings, there are a few foods that will help, and a few you should steer clear of. Some good foods to help with quitting and cravings are; salted popcorn, salted pretzels (pretty much everything salty, I'm not sure why, but this does work), oranges (the vitamin c helps), bell peppers, and carrot sticks are also good to nibble on. The worst things you could eat whilst quitting is red meat (it somehow creates cravings), sweet things, and things like that. Fruit and veg in general will help, but I have to be honest, I didn't eat a lot of that in the first few days, I kinda just binged. I had a craving tonight. I had argued with my mother in law and I was really angry. It's the first craving I'd had in a while, but luckily it didn't last long.

Woohoo....48 hours without nicotine...I am starting day 3 without nicotine. I was wondering when will the cravings go down. My mom used to smoke, and quit a long time ago, I ask her if ever she gets stressed or angry whether she craves a cigarette, she said never. But she hasn't been smoking for 30 years. At day three am I still going through withdrawls, when does that stop?

Well, it's been almost two weeks now and most of my cravings have gone, except when I'm particularly upset, or stressed I feel myself wanting one. But after the first week I was pretty much fine. Because I did it with nicotine replacement, it didn't take me as long as it would do if I had quit cold turkey. But I only needed the nicotine lozenges for two days.
